Weebly switches off Icelandic sites on 27 September

Deadline

Sites are unpublished in 14 days.

The situation

In June 2026 Weebly announced it is ending operations in 67 countries. Iceland is on that list, seventh in order, which says something about how many Icelandic sites run on the platform. Sites on an account registered here are unpublished on 27 September 2026, and accounts close on 26 December. After that neither the content nor the domain can be retrieved.

The dates

29 June 2026

New pages blocked

From that day it was no longer possible to publish new pages. The site kept working but stopped accepting new content.

27 September 2026

The site goes dark

Weebly takes the site down. After that day the address serves nothing, to visitors or to Google.

26 December 2026

Accounts close

After that nobody can get into the platform. The content and the domain have to be somewhere else by then.

What to do

01

Export the content

In Weebly's settings, under Archive, you can have a copy of the site emailed to you. Do it while the account is still open.

02

Check the domain

If the domain was bought through Weebly it has to move to another registrar. That transfer takes several days, so it cannot wait.

03

Get a new site

An exported copy is not a site anyone can run. It is static with no editor behind it, so a new site has to replace it.

What we do

A site you own

A bespoke site on , hosted by us. The content is yours and the domain is yours, and no company abroad can switch it off.

The content comes with you

We take the text, the images and the pages worth keeping and rebuild them properly. You do not start from a blank page.

Sooner is better

The earlier you get in touch, the more room there is to move the domain and get a new site live with the shortest possible gap.

Free sample

We can build a sample of the new site for you at no cost and with no obligation, so you can see how it would look before anything is decided.

Questions

01

Does this affect me?

Weebly named 67 countries and Iceland is one of them. It follows the country the account is registered in, not the domain. Weebly has emailed the people affected, so it is worth looking for that message.

02

Do I keep my domain?

Yes, if you move it. A domain bought through Weebly has to be transferred to another registrar before the account closes in December. Icelandic .is domains are registered with ISNIC and stay with you regardless of Weebly.

03

Is my content lost?

No, not if you export it in time. Weebly offers a copy of the site in its settings. The export is we can work from, though forms, slideshows and store data come across poorly.

04

Is it too late to start?

No. The site is unpublished on 27 September but the account stays open until December. The earlier you start, the shorter the gap where you have no site.

Next

Export the content and start the new site.
